Prof. Dan Oron: “Quantum enhanced microscopy”

The microscope was conceived as a “classical” instrument, long before the dawn of quantum mechanics. Similarly, the resolution limit of the microscope was derived by Ernst Abbe in 1873, implicitly assuming the wave nature of light.

Dan Oron: “Superresolution optical microscopy based on attributes beyond the intensity of light”

The Abbe derivation of the diffraction limit relied on several assumptions, either implicit or explicit. Breaking these has allowed for far-field superresolution imaging, culminating in the Nobel prize in Chemistry of 2014.
