The Abbe derivation of the diffraction limit relied on several assumptions, either implicit or explicit. Breaking these has allowed for far-field superresolution imaging, culminating in the Nobel prize in Chemistry of 2014. In particular, the Abbe derivation implicitly assumed classical physics and the use of intensity measurements. I will show how in various scenarios, measurements of highr-order photon correlations and of the scattered field phase allows for overcoming the diffraction limit.
