Dear Purdue & Technion Faculty,
This memorandum is to announce a new joint postdoctoral fellowship between Purdue University and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. This program will seek excellent postdoctoral fellows to conduct quantum-focused, fundamental research projects under joint mentorship from principal investigators (PIs) from Purdue and the Technion.
Details of the program are listed below:
· Awardees will have two primary co-advisors, one a faculty member at Purdue and one a faculty member at the Technion. Additional co-advisors from either university may also participate in the project as appropriate.
· Awardees will be funded for two years total and split their time equally at each institution (one year at each). These will most likely be sequential one-year terms, and timing can be decided in collaboration between the awardee and the PIs.
· The primary faculty advisor is responsible for 50% of the salary, fringe, and benefits of the postdoc during the year in residence at their university. Purdue salary (65,000 USD/year, taxable). Technion salary (14,000 NIS /month, not taxable). Travel funding of $5k is also required for the mentor at the Technion (this fee will be covered by the home college at Purdue).
· Applicants can (a) propose their own innovative research proposal and list potential co-advisors, or (b) choose to develop their proposal based on research descriptions already posted by faculty on the program website. All proposals must have a quantum-related focus. In both cases, postdoctoral candidates are strongly encouraged to work with potential co-advisors to develop their research plan.
· Applicants will be selected based on their research excellence and the proposed project.
· Potential PIs will be asked to provide feedback on applications submitted to their project.
Faculty interested in advising postdoctoral fellows from the program are invited to partner with a potential co-advisor from the partner institution and submit joint project descriptions. Instructions to do so are below:
· Both advisors must complete the following here (each submit a separate form): Qualtrics Link
o Upload a recently updated CV
o Upload a list of affiliations and collaborators from the past five years
o Agree to the funding terms and conditions described above
o Read and agree to export control terms and agree to take a one-time training course on export control prior to the awardee’s start date. Export control regulations require all research activities to be strictly limited to “Fundamental Research” in quantum science and/or engineering. For purposes of this program, “Fundamental Research” shall be defined as basic research and applied research which does not incorporate any exchange of proprietary/confidential information and to which there are no publication or citizenship restrictions attached.
o Upload a 200-word maximum project description (identical for each co-PI)
